Breaking Free from Transactional Religion
Reading Time: 4 minutes
Author: Pastor Confidence Busiah
There are moments when the road before us grows dark. The sky that was once bright with promise suddenly becomes heavy with threatening clouds. The breakthrough you fasted for, or the healing you expected, simply does not come on your timeline. In those testing spaces, an urgent question echoes inside the heart: What happens to my trust when the answer from heaven is "no"?
It is incredibly easy to lift our voices in praise when the sun is shining, the bank account is full, and our health is strong. But true faith is never proven in the sunshine. It is forged and authenticated within the storm.
The Illusion of Surface-Level Faith
When Jesus walked the streets of Galilee, massive crowds pressed in from every side. They came to eat the multiplied bread, witness spectacular miracles, and secure freedom from physical afflictions. They were deeply religious, yet Jesus knew the hidden alignment of their hearts. They wanted the gifts far more than they wanted the Giver.
To expose this superficial, transactional trap, Christ delivered words that shocked the multitudes:
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." — Matthew 16:24-25
A transactional faith crumbles like dust the moment blessings are stripped away. It operates on a fragile condition: "I will serve You as long as You protect my comfort."
But true Kingdom faith demands absolute, total surrender. The cross is not a temporary burden to carry and set down. It is an instrument of execution to our personal ambitions and self-preservation. We do not come to God for what we can extract from His hands. We come to Him simply for who He is.
The Shift to an Unshakeable Stance
True maturity requires a deliberate shift in our spiritual alignment. Transactional religion constantly asks, "What can God give me?" and runs entirely on temporary blessings. Authentic Kingdom faith asks, "Who is God to me?" and anchors itself deeply into His eternal character.
Faith is not a warm feeling or a passive thought. It is an active decision. Obedience is one foot moving forward, but steadfast faith is the other foot that gives you balance when the ground shakes.
Examine the foundation of your heart today. Let go of the fragile anxiety of transactional religion, step into the fire of total trust, and discover that the One who invites you into the storm is eternally enough.

This indeed is a Kingdom principle. May God help us.
